The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help tracking down two men who used a car to uproot an ATM in Westlake Village, then burned the machine and their getaway vehicle after getting the cash out.
The ATM at a Mobil gas station at 942 S. Westlake Blvd. was reported stolen just after 5 a.m., Capt. Davidson said.
Two men dislodged the machine from its place on the ground, then loaded into a white Hyundai before they fled, Davidson added.
Surveillance footage obtained by KTLA shows one of the thieves try to grab the ATM by himself, a feat that proved too difficult.
He then reentered the car, which reversed quickly into the machine, knocking it loose so the pair can put it into their car.
About an hour and a half later, the vehicle and the ATM were found by the Ventura County Fire Department, which was responding to a suspicious blaze. At that point, the machine had been emptied of its cash.
Anyone with information is asked to call the VCSO at 805-654-2380.
