Savannah Chrisley’s fiancé, Jason Galanis, has a complicated past that is drawing fresh attention for an unexpected reason.
While his criminal history raises questions, newly surfaced prison records paint a surprisingly different picture of his conduct behind bars.
An evaluation from 2017 praised his efforts to educate fellow inmates, raising an intriguing contrast between his past financial crimes and the reputation he developed while serving his sentence.
Savannah Chrisley’s Fiancé Earned High Marks Behind Bars

Galanis reportedly stood out as a volunteer tutor during his time in federal prison, where officials credited him with helping fellow inmates pursue educational opportunities.
According to records obtained by TMZ and filed in court, a July 2017 work performance evaluation praised Galanis for volunteering to teach multiple classes and making a genuine effort to turn his incarceration into something constructive.
The assessment showcased his ability to encourage other prisoners to work toward their educational goals.
He received the highest possible ratings in several areas, including initiative, quality and quantity of work, willingness to learn, and cooperation with others.
Officials also gave him top marks for following instructions and working with supervisors. One particularly notable detail concerned his potential employment prospects.
Prison officials indicated that, had Galanis worked for them outside the correctional facility, they would have promoted him to a more demanding position with higher pay.
Savannah’s Fiancé Faced Fresh Scrutiny Over His Former Marriage

Savannah Chrisley’s fiancé’s prison tutoring evaluation portrayed him as a cooperative worker who helped other inmates, but court documents from his former marriage revealed a very different set of concerns about his financial affairs.
His ex-wife, Monet Berger, claimed she had been unaware of his activities and was left dealing with the consequences of his criminal conduct.
According to Us Magazine, Berger filed for divorce in August 2017 after separating from Galanis in May 2016. The couple had married in October 2006 and did not have children together.
In her court filing, Berger sought to distance herself from the financial liabilities connected to her husband’s businesses and criminal convictions.
“[Berger] is not aware of the extent of the communities’ liability for [Galanis’] conduct during the marriage. She was a victim of his crimes and received compensation from the Victim’s Defense Fund,” her divorce petition stated.
Berger also applied for “innocent spouse relief” concerning their joint tax returns, claiming she had been “unaware” that Galanis was “underpaying [or] failing to pay” taxes. She further alleged that he had forged her signature on multiple tax documents.
Savannah Chrisley’s Fiancé Shared Prison Time With Her Father Todd

The revelations about Galanis’ previous marriage were not the only details drawing attention to his past.
His connection to Savannah’s family extended to the federal prison camp where he served time alongside her father, Todd Chrisley.
According to Page Six, Galanis and Todd were incarcerated at Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida, with their stays overlapping from January through August 2023.
It remained unclear whether the two men interacted while they were there. Galanis received a sentence of 189 months in 2020 for his role in securities fraud schemes, including a scheme involving a Native American tribal entity.
He was also ordered to forfeit and repay approximately $80 million. President Donald Trump commuted his sentence in March 2025.

Savannah’s Future Husband Drew A Stark Warning From His Brother
Galanis’ relationship with Savannah Chrisley also attracted criticism from within his own family. His estranged brother, Derek, publicly questioned whether the convicted financier had changed, warning that the reality star could face difficulties as their relationship progressed.
Speaking to Page Six, Derek described the relationship in blunt terms. “It’s his biggest con yet,” he claimed, adding, “This girl’s in for a rocky ride.”
Derek also rejected the idea that his brother had turned over a new leaf. “He’s not a changed man, he’s the same dude he always was,” he said.
The brothers’ relationship had reportedly been fractured for years. Derek, who was also convicted in a securities fraud case connected to a conspiracy involving his brother and their father, John, said he last spoke to Galanis in 2016 while they were both incarcerated at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.
Derek further questioned whether Jason had acknowledged his efforts to speak publicly about the Galanis family’s business connections. “My noise about the Hunter Biden stuff is what got him out of prison,” he claimed.
He added that he had expected a personal acknowledgment from his brother, saying, “You’d think he’d picked up the phone to say, ‘Hey, Derek, thanks for that.’ No, it’s off to the next thing.”
Savannah Chrisley Defended Her Unborn Baby Against Public Criticism

The scrutiny surrounding Galanis’ criminal history prompted Savannah to publicly defend her pregnancy, making it clear that she did not believe her unborn child should be defined by the controversy surrounding the baby’s father.
The Blast previously revealed that the reality TV star shared an ultrasound image on her Instagram Stories and addressed the criticism directly. “My sweet, thumb-sucking baby … you are worth it ALL!” she wrote.
She continued with a message aimed at separating her child’s future from the public discussion surrounding Galanis. “You are not a headline. You are not a controversy. You are not defined by anyone’s past, anyone’s mistakes, or anyone else’s opinions.”
Savannah also made it clear that she would not let the reaction overshadow her excitement about becoming a mother.
“You are innocent, deeply loved, and the greatest blessing God could have ever entrusted your daddy and I with,” she wrote, before adding, “No amount of noise in this world will ever overshadow the joy of being your mama. You are my answered prayer. And I will never apologize for celebrating you.”
