Jenny McCarthy has been sharing her health struggles for a while on social media. Her issues began in October 2024 and eventually led her to living in a tent.

She recently shared insight into what she’s been going through and why she decided to take up residence in a tent while treating the issues on her podcast, “Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show.”

In a newly released podcast episode, McCarthy goes into detail about all she’s been going through with her health. She started off by explaining that she’s going through “medical fatigue” and saying her food allergies “went to the next level to the point where I couldn’t eat anything.”

“Because I’m paranoid, I live in a tent,” she said. “And I’m not even joking.”

She said she’s been “dying” to tell her story because “the last two years of my life have been absolutely fricken insane.”

“By now, some of you guys already know that I’ve been dealing with mold and mycotoxin poisoning,” she began her story. “I’ve talked about pieces of it before, you may have seen me on other podcasts, but you really have no idea what it actually took to figure out what the hell was happening with my body.”

McCarthy didn’t only hope people would listen to her story but also take away the idea of always listening to your body and asking more questions when things aren’t adding up.

“Believe it or not, this entire journey started with a freaking toothache,” she said. “And somehow that led me down a rabbit hole of doctors, surgeries, teeth being pulled, mysterious growths popping up in places you are not expecting, implants literally falling out and eventually realizing my immune system was fighting something so much bigger.”

She continued by saying that at one point, in a state of desperation to heal completely, she decided to move into a tent, adding that that isn’t even the “craziest part of the story.”

Jenny McCarthy’s Issues Began With A Toothache

Her story begins back on October 7, 2024, when she woke up with a “dull ache in my tooth” that felt “different.”

“So I called my dentist and I was like, ‘Yo, I’m feeling this different kind of pain.’ And he had me explain it to him and he’s like ‘Ooh yeah, that sounds like an infection. That sounds like I’m gonna need to prescribe you an antibiotic.’” She then said maybe she should be seen in the office, but the doctor said he was on a golf trip. He ended up calling in the antibiotic, but by the evening, her pain only increased.

McCarthy ended up taking a Percocet but said it did “absolutely nothing” for the pain she was experiencing. The pain only got worse while she was waiting to see a specialist, so she ended up asking her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, to take her to the hospital, where she ended up getting morphine, but that also did “nothing.”

The next day, she ended up seeing a specialist and was given with the choice of an extraction of the infected root canal or to “clean it out.” She opted for the second option. That sadly didn’t solve her issue.

Jenny McCarthy’s Story Continued With More Health Problems

McCarthy shares more about the infected tooth and what needed to be done before sharing the next issue that came along. She said that while she was healing from the tooth issue, she developed a chalazion, which she described as a “stye on your eye but it’s kind of worse.”

“It’s kind of like the nasty cousin to a stye, the trailer park version of a stye,” she explained. “It looks like a big, fat, gross whitehead.”

At first, she thought it was just a stye, but after going to see an eye doctor, she found out it was a chalazion. She then explained what had to be done to fix the issue and the fact that it came back a week later.

Her story continued with news of more infections and more surgeries, before she got on her “mold journey.”

McCarthy shared that a lot of her symptoms mirrored perimenopause, so it was tough to decipher that it was mold. She said that all the issues happening at once were an “alarm” for her.

“I would get these hives, I would get rashes, my face would swell up. I would get these under eye puffs. The under-eye puffs were so gnarly,” she explained. “My eyes would be so swollen.”

In December of 2025, McCarthy was told by her doctor that her issues were caused by mold.

“I get on the phone with her and she says, ‘Jenny, you’ve got serious mold. You’ve got the type of mold that causes seizures. If this thing crosses the blood-brain barrier, I’m going to be talking to you in hospital. You’re going to start seizing. We’ve got to get on this immediately,’” McCarthy shared. “So I said to her, ‘Is this the reason why I’m having all of these issues?’ And she said, ‘Um, yeah. Your immune system has been so under attack and busy quite frankly trying to deal with mold, it can’t handle all these other infections going on.”

She then shared that she’s in month seven of detoxing from the mold, about her house remediation, and the fact that she lives in a tent because of paranoia.

“So as of right now, I am living in a tent,” she said. “That’s where this journey has brought me.”

The neuro issues hit hard.”
