The Voice: Battle of Champions continues to be a season full of new twists and plenty of surprises. For the first time ever, The Voice brought back Artists from previous seasons to battle one another in head-to-head sing-offs in which they represented not themselves but their former Coaches.
Each current Coach got to choose two Artists from past seasons to battle on their behalf in hopes of winning an extra slot in the Finale. The Voice’s first-ever winner Javier Colon returned to Team Adam alongside Season 9’s champion Jordan Smith. Representing Team Kelly were Season 21 champs Girl Named Tom and Season 17 winner Jake Hoot, while Season 16 winner Maelyn Jarmon and Season 27 Finalist Renzo repped Team Legend.
Overseeing this in-season competition, which took place just after the Knockouts round on April 6, was CeeLo Green, a Coach from the earliest seasons of The Voice and a Mega Mentor in Season 29. He chose the winner of each sing-off, and in the case of a 1-1-1 split score at the end, it would have gone to an audience vote… but that didn’t happen. Instead, one Coach was the clear winner, with their Artists winning both times they stepped onto the stage. And since the Artists chose songs that they’d previously sung on The Voice, it was an extra-special walk down memory lane for all involved. Coach Kelly Clarkson even teared up at the end reflecting on the beauty of being a professional singer.

Winner: Girl Named Tom for Team Kelly
The only three-person winners of The Voice, Girl Named Tom is a sibling group known for their immaculate harmonies, which they displayed beautifully as they sang “Dust In The Wind” for Team Kelly. Season 27 Finalist Renzo, coached by John Legend, showed off his upper register covering Aerosmith’s “Dream On,” but Green ultimately deemed the trio as this round’s winner.

Winner: Maelyn Jarmon for Team Legend
Two fan-favorite winners with two incredible voices, but on this particular night, Maelyn Jarmon’s performance of “Fields of Gold” claimed the winning title against Jordan Smith’s performance of “Chandelier.” To his credit, Smith knew he was in trouble from the start, joking, “I quit. I give up,” the moment Jarmon finished her song.
Winner: Jake Hoot for Team Kelly
Javier Colon was the first-ever winner of The Voice, coached by Adam Levine, and reprised his Blind Audition song, “Time After Time,” but Green voted in favor of country boy Jake Hoot’s performance of “Desperado.”
