A suspect was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a deputy with a car, initiating a pursuit and then barricading in a San Gabriel Valley home early Thursday morning.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, it was around 2 a.m. when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on an adult male driver in the 19500 block of East Walnut Drive in the City of Industry. Officials did not say why the man was pulled over.

Unconfirmed reports from the stringer service KNN say the suspect then hit a deputy with his vehicle, leading to a deputy-involved shooting, though LASD did not comment on the possible collision. However, LASD said that a deputy was transported to a hospital for minor injuries, but did not specify how the deputy was injured.

LASD confirmed that during the attempted traffic stop, Walnut Station deputies opened fire on the suspect around Fairway and Walnut Drives. The suspect was not struck by gunfire and, according to KNN, he then led deputies on a pursuit.

Officials said the suspect ended up barricading himself at a home located on the 500 block of Roxdale Avenue in La Puente, where he was eventually taken into custody. His identity was not immediately released.

LASD said there was no further information available as of 8 a.m., and that it is investigating the deputy-involved shooting per protocol.
