Several businesses in South Los Angeles were ransacked Monday morning in a series of burglaries police believe were connected to a nearby street takeover.
The takeover was reported at Gage and Compton avenues just before 4 a.m., according to Lt. Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
About 70 vehicles were reportedly involved, though they’d fled by the time deputies arrived, Martinez said.
While deputies were preparing for the takeover, they received calls that several youths had broken into nearby businesses.
From an El Super, the minors took merchandise, mostly liquor, and damaged the business. They also took merchandise and damaged a nearby Walgreens.
Nothing was taken from Pizza Loca, though the store was damaged.
It’s unclear if anything was taken from a nail salon in the area, but that store was damaged as well.
All of the youths fled before deputies arrived, Martinez said.
Similar takeovers and burglaries also took place in Long Beach early Monday morning.
