An elderly man was killed in an incident involving two rottweilers in Norwalk over the weekend, authorities said.
Deputies were dispatched to the area of 166th Street and Gladstone Avenue around 6:45 a.m. Saturday on a “vicious dog” call, according to the the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Arriving deputies found one victim, an elderly man, suffering from several dog bites on his arm. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead 24 hours after the incident, LASD said.
The owner of the two dogs who attacked the 86-year-old is said to be cooperating with authorities in the investigation and was not charged or cited, officials confirmed. The dogs, however, were taken into custody by local animal control officers; their fate is not known.
According to law enforcement information, the owner relayed to deputies that their dogs got loose before the fatal incident. The man who died, who has not been named publicly, is said to have lived in the area where the attack occurred. His official cause of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner.
No further information on the incident was immediately available.
