The Young and the Restless reveals that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) is on hand for Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson)’s wedding. And then, in an epic twist, Adam delivers Sally’s baby when she goes into labor while they are alone. Adam displayed some strange expressions at the wedding and was acting weird right after.

Today we’re going to talk about whether Sally’s wedding and the birth of her daughter trigger Adam into a strange obsession, because this has all stirred up his old feelings, despite the fact he does love Chelsea Lawson Newman (Melissa Claire Egan). Let’s dive in.

The Young and the Restless: Tension During the Ceremony

So, as you know, Billy and Sally got hitched this week, and Adam was front and center, technically third row, for the whole thing. He was bridesmaid Chelsea’s plus-one at the wedding. And I suspect Adam being at Sally and Billy’s wedding was to set the stage for a twisted storyline, because honestly, there was no other reason at all for Sally to ask Chelsea to be a bridesmaid. They’re not friends, and she cheated with Adam when he was with Sally. I mean, it’s one thing for her to forgive Chelsea, but it’s quite another to ask her to stand at her side while she marries Billy.

So, there was clearly a storyline reason for this bizarre Chelsea bridesmaid situation. The now ex-head writer, Josh Griffith, clearly wrote it so he could find a way to put Adam at Sally’s wedding and then put him there for the birth of the child, because there’s no way that Adam would have scored an invitation otherwise, because Billy hates the guy.

Adam Stunned by Sally on Y&R

And did you notice the look on Adam’s face when he saw Sally in her wedding dress? It was really intense. It was really emotional. Adam looked like he was thinking, “Wow, she’s beautiful. That could have been me standing at the altar instead of Billy Abbott.” Because it could have been, if Adam hadn’t screwed things up so badly with her. Because don’t forget, he loved Sally so much.

And then when she said her vows to Billy, we heard Sally saying that she knew she’d find a man who would love her with his whole entire heart. Sally said, “I thought I found him before.” But then she said all the heartbreak led her to Billy. The look on Adam’s face when she said, “I thought I found him,” was very uncomfortable. And Chelsea figured that, too, because she looked over at Adam when Sally said that. Because both Adam and Chelsea know if he hadn’t cheated, things would be different. He’d be up there putting a ring on Sally’s finger.

But the weirdness didn’t stop. Billy was a jerk to Adam, as usual, when he tried to offer sincere congratulations. So, he walked off and then happened to eavesdrop on Sally talking to Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) and Coco Spectra (Ashley Campbell). And then when Sally went back upstairs, he followed her. She was in her suite alone, and Adam said he wanted to congratulate Sally alone. That was sketchy. And then Adam seemed a little choked up when he told Sally he just really wants her to be happy. And then she went into labor, and her water broke.

The Young and the Restless: An Unexpected Delivery

So, Adam was clearly already caught up in complicated feelings. And then it got stranger, because Adam delivered Sally’s baby girl. Adam tried to call Billy over and over, but he wasn’t taking Adam’s calls, because, A, Billy hates Adam, and B, Billy’s worried about his mom, Jill Abbott (Lauren Coslo), who had a heart attack and is dying. So, further complicating things, Audra hid Sally’s phone. The suite’s phone was broken, and Adam’s phone died. So, he couldn’t call anybody and had to do the delivery. And right after Sally gives birth with her ex, Adam, at her side, that’s when Billy rushed in and got to meet his new baby daughter.

So, what really got me thinking about all this was when Adam was helping Sally give birth, she was reassuring him, “This isn’t like baby Ava that we lost.” She told Adam, “This baby’s going to be okay.” So, he was clearly caught up in things already. And then, while Sally and Billy were bonding and oohing and aahing over their new baby girl, Adam just stood there. He was lurking in a strange way. He was a bundle of emotions.

Adam’s Regret and Possible Obsession on Y&R

And the look on Adam’s face suggests he might be thinking about how his life might have gone. If not for the Chelsea cheating, Adam could be married to Sally, and that could be their baby he delivered. This week, The Young and the Restless spoilers say Chelsea sees a new side to Adam, and by the end of the week, spoilers say Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is giving Adam some advice.

So, I’m wondering if him watching Sally get married and then helping deliver her baby really rocked Adam to the core. And soon he might have serious regrets about what his life could have been. Not because he doesn’t care about Chelsea, because we know Adam loves her and he’s happy with her, but I think it’s more about what could have been, that potential future he lost with Sally because he screwed up. And I suspect we might see Adam go a bit dark.

And honestly, I’m here for it, because Young and the Restless wastes Mark Grossman’s talent. He’s not had a story of his own for so long. Adam has been a sidekick to Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow)’s nonsense and Victor’s schemes for way too long, with no plot of his own. And a lot of fans don’t care much for Adam with Chelsea, and they think it’s just boring. And there’s still a legion of Adam and Sally shippers out there. So, if Adam gets obsessed with Sally and her baby girl, it could be really interesting. It could be very soapy. It could drive ratings.

Young and Restless: Billy vs. Adam Conflict Ahead

The backstory of the Billy versus Adam stuff, if you don’t remember, is that Billy still blames Adam for his daughter Delia Abbott (Sophie Pollono)’s death. Honestly, I blame Billy more for leaving Delia alone. Adam didn’t even know he hit Delia. But once he realized he did, he did wrong, and he hid evidence after the fact. But Billy focused all the blame on Adam instead of taking accountability for leaving her alone with her little doggy. And for the fact that Billy just failed to see it was honestly just an awful, tragic accident.

But he will always associate Adam with the tragedy of losing Delia. And of course, it still haunts Billy. So, if Adam gets too close to Sally and her daughter, Billy might lash out and see it as Adam trying to take another child from him. And we could get a big dust-up between Billy and Adam. I think Sally would be sympathetic to him. She may see that this is Adam struggling, because this reminded him of their daughter Ava’s death. But Billy will have no compassion, and he will lose it if Adam is spending time with Sally and the baby.

Young and the Restless: Billy Atrays to the Dark Side

And I honestly think Billy could go toward the dark side a little bit, too. And of course, Sally won’t like that. As I said, it’s been just far too long since Adam had a meaty storyline of his own. And we all know he is so intriguing when he goes dark. So I am hoping this Sally wedding and the baby delivery are the kickoff for a twisted new Adam Newman storyline.

I mean, yeah, he hurt Sally when they were together, so it’s Adam’s fault that he is in the situation he’s in. But I think we’ll see him drowning in regret soon, even though he still loves Chelsea, and I think he’ll feel bad about it. It could lead him to a very strange place, because it’s going to cause problems, probably for Sally and Billy, and problems for him and Chelsea, but I’m looking forward to it. We’ll see if it goes this way.
