One of the first twists that made The Voice: Battle of Champions different from previous seasons was the presence of only three Coaches, all three veterans of the show with wins under their belts. With the red chair residents so evenly matched, the rivalries between them only intensified, especially after the show introduced a new element: the Triple Turn Competition.

Over the course of the three nights of Blind Auditions in The Voice Season 29, the Coaches kept a close eye on which of them was in the lead when it came to Artists who’d received 3-Chair Turns picking them as their Coach.

“If I don’t fight super hard in the 3-Chair, there’s no chance,” said Coach Adam Levine, referring to the high caliber of his fellow Coaches.

The Battle of Champions is bringing out our best,” agreed John Legend,

By the final round, Levine was ahead with three Triple Turn Artists, with Legend and Kelly Clarkson tied close behind him at two apiece. “This Triple Turn Competition is getting down to the wire. The OG Coach is going to lose his lead, or leave them in the dust,” remarked The Voice commentator Druski.

Who won the Triple Turn Competition on The Voice Season 29?

Kelly Clarkson!

The deciding Artist was Mikenley Brown, whose raspy rendition of “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry earned her chair turns from all three Coaches. After she picked Team Kelly, the mini-competition was over because Clarkson’s team was full. However, that meant that Levine and Clarkson were now tied at 3-3.

The Voice Host Carson Daly came out to explain that to break the tie, the show had tabulated which Coach, Levine or Clarkson, had a better track record with Artists who’d received 2-Chair Turns, and that person…was Clarkson.

When Daly announced her name, a confetti cannon fired out of the back of Clarkson’s chair, which hilariously scared the singer. But it didn’t dampen her spirits. “I’m officially the Triple Turn Champion,” she bragged, adding, “I’m so excited to Super Steal to steal someone I love.”

What is a Super Steal on The Voice?

The prize of winning the Triple Turn Competition is a Super Steal, to be used in the Battles, where two members on the same team perform a song together. After each Battle, their Coach must choose which one of their Artists will advance to the next round. During the Battles, each Coach has one Steal to use to bring an eliminated Artist on their team, but only Clarkson has a Super Steal in her back-pocket.

Clarkson’s Super Steal will surely come in handy as it trumps any other Steal attempts from Team Legend or Team Adam, guaranteeing a win for Team Kelly. What’s more, it can only be used once.

“I had my money on her the whole time. This is gonna make for one heart-pounding Battle Round,” said Druski. For his part, Levine was undeterred by his last-minute loss. “She won the little thing but she didn’t win the big thing,” said Levine, predicting, “I’m gonna win The Voice.”
