Lindsey Buckingham will never get away from the sound of the woman that loved him, or the social-media presence. The former Fleetwood Mac bandmates are teasing a collaboration. On July 17, Nicks and Buckingham shared coordinating quotes in each other’s handwriting. “And if you go forward …,” reads Nicks’s post. “I’ll meet you there,” responds Buckingham’s. So what’s bringing them together? Resident Fleetwood Mac expert Devon Ivie has a confident bet: “I will buy every Vulture subscriber a silk shawl if it’s not a deluxe box set for Buckingham Nicks.”
The duo left us hanging for a few weeks as to what that meant, but now we know why the two are no longer going their own way.
What did the cryptic social media quotes mean?
The split quote is a lyric from their 1973 song “Frozen Love,” off their album Buckingham Nicks. They put that album out as a couple before joining Fleetwood Mac in 1975. Then breaking up, writing one of the biggest albums of all time, and giving some iconic performances, before having a nasty late era falling-out. Buckingham Nicks, a flop when it was first released, is not currently available on streaming and has never been released on CD. Until now. “Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks’ elusive 1973 studio album arrives September 19,” the copy for the duo’s single on YouTube reads. Notably there hasn’t been a tour announcement. Since the last time Buckingham and Nicks got together live, it didn’t go so well.

Would you believe Harry Styles was involved? Fleetwood Mac performed together at a MusiCares benefit in 2018, after which Nicks fired Buckingham from the band because he was behaving real savage-like. According to a later Nicks interview in Rolling Stone, “he wasn’t very nice to anybody; he wasn’t very nice to Harry Styles.”
Any chance of new Fleetwood Mac?
To quote a Buckingham and McVie song, “No.” Nicks has said she doesn’t want to revive Fleetwood Mac following the death of bandmate Christine McVie in 2022. “When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this,” Nicks told Vulture in 2023. “There’s no reason to.” The last time Fleetwood Mac toured, in 2018–19, Buckingham was fired from the group before the tour began.
