Forget Times Square. The biggest ball dropping in 2026 is the one on The Wall

The tension-filled game show is coming back to NBC for a sixth season, just in time to celebrate the new year with some cold hard cash. Hosted by Chris Hardwick, The Wall asks couples, friends, and family members to trust each other in the pursuit of thousands (or sometimes millions!) of dollars, resulting in tears, hugs, and a mountain of emotions.

Contestants have the chance to win life-changing amounts of money, with more than $12 million available on the titular wall throughout the game. It’s exactly the kind of heartwarming content you need on cold winter nights, and we’ve got all the details on how to watch new episodes below.

How does The Wall work?

Inspired by Plinko from The Price Is Right, The Wall is named after its giant central wall of pegs, with slots at the bottom containing various dollar amounts. Contestants compete in pairs and answer trivia questions. If a question is right, a green ball is dropped down the wall, and the contestants gain that amount of money. If the question is wrong, the ball is red, and the contestants lose that amount.

In the first round, contestants answer questions together. But one person is taken behind the wall to answer questions in isolation. Based on only the potential answers, their partner has to decide if they think the questions will be answered correctly, and make decisions about how many balls to drop.

The isolated partner also has the opportunity to sign a contract for a set amount of money that also forfeits the cash they’ve banked, in case they think the balls haven’t landed in their favor.

You truly never know what is going to happen when the balls start dropping, and contestants have walked away with anything from $0 to $1.7 million. It’s a ride worth going on, so mark your calendar now for January 5.
