Hoda Kotb & Fiance Ended Relationship After Nearly A Decade
Hoda Kotb happily announced on The Today Show in 2019 that she was engaged to Joel Schiffman. The couple went public with their romance in 2015 after meeting at an event in New York City a few years earlier.
Sadly, the engagement ended abruptly in 2022 without the couple tying the knot. Hoda Kotb shared insight into the split during an interview reported by E! News. “Joel is one of the best people I know, and he really is a great human being,” she said about her former fiance.
The former Today host added, “And I feel like I’m a pretty great human being, but sometimes two great human beings together isn’t quite enough to make it work.” She continued, “I think a lot of people are probably in these situations. One person’s growing… or one person wants it this way, and one person wants it that way.”
“I went to this retreat and had kind of an epiphany about my life and I was realizing that you can love someone—like I loved him very much, and still do to this day—but that person isn’t right for you in that moment,” she told Savannah Guthrie earlier this year.

Hoda Kotb will always be grateful for her ex-fiance. They adopted two children together. The former couple adopted their daughter Haley in 2017. Another daughter, Hope, joined the family in 2019. Unfortunately, the couple broke up a few years later.

“I have two incredible children I share with him. And it’s because of Joel that I have Haley and Hope, without question. I think I might have been too afraid to do it alone,” she told PEOPLE magazine.
Spending more time with her young children was one of the main reasons Hoda Kotb left the Today Show in January. The morning talk show just recently found a replacement to join Jenna Bush Hager as co-host for the fourth hour.
