Months before her death, Panettiere spoke candidly about her deeply personal struggles. According to The Blast, the “Heroes” actress said that she began battling postpartum depression after birthing her daughter in 2011.
Panettiere revealed that she was using alcohol and an insomnia medication at the time, but one day, things went left while she was on the set of “Nashville” when she was unable to wake up. “Two hours later, I woke up in the hospital,” she said.
Producers allowed her to take a break from the show to enter rehab, but that may have been one of the few positive experiences she had with Hollywood’s higher-ups amid her struggle.
In her book, “This Is Me,” Panettiere said that a major skincare brand actually ended up canceling its contract with her because of her candor. “But a part of my career I’d come to depend on suffered. Neutrogena canceled my long-standing contract, and it was yet another blow in a year that had given almost nothing else,” she wrote.
