Hey, General Hospital fans. It seems like the ABC soap is finally laying the groundwork for Robert Scorpio‘s (Tristan Rogers) off-screen death, which is going to send major shock waves through Port Charles and affect many, many lives. Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), of course, is going to be severely impacted, as well as many others. They’ll all be reeling.
Today we’re going to talk about what will happen and how everything will change once the legendary Robert Scorpio passes away and we finally get a proper send-off for actor Tristan Rogers.
General Hospital: Setting the Stage for Robert’s Death
All right, so we just got a huge clue that General Hospital is getting ready to script Robert’s death. Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) told Anna that Robert and Holly Sutton (Emma Sams) are coming back to Port Charles for a visit by the end of the year, and that’s because Robert is officially retiring as Port Charles district attorney, which is a big deal.
And Felicia said Robert is going to wrap up things in Port Charles, and then he and Holly are going to stay in France together for good. So, that right there tells us that General Hospital is getting ready, and they are setting the stage for Robert’s death. And since Tristan passed away in real life, obviously Robert’s death has to be off-screen. However, we have heard for a while that Holly would come back to town for Robert’s memorial.
Honoring Tristan Rogers in GH
If you recall, Tristan Rogers, who played Anna’s ex-husband, Robert Scorpio, for forty-five years, passed away. It was last year, August 15th, 2025, just a few weeks after his last General Hospital appearance, after a battle with lung cancer. And now the soap’s finally gearing up to address the death of Tristan’s alter ego, Robert, more than a year after the actor passed.
And as part of the exit and memorial, we have this new character, Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer), who is played by Australian actor Dean Geyer. His name pays tribute to both Tristan Rogers and his character of Robert Scorpio. But what’s more interesting is we may find out that Tristan is the son Robert never knew he had.
The first red flag is Tristan is Australian like Robert Scorpio. But there’s more to it than that. The second red flag is Anna recently mentioned to Tristan that he reminds her of somebody who now lives far away. And she was obviously talking about Robert. And if that is the case, they may be dropping little breadcrumbs that Tristan is the son of not only Robert Scorpio, but Anna Devane as well. It certainly would not be the first time on a soap that somebody had a long-lost child pop up that they never knew they had. So, Tristan could play into the storyline of Robert’s passing.
General Hospital: The Impact on Port Charles
Plus, we know Robert’s death is going to absolutely rock Port Charles right to its core. The ripple effects are going to impact so many lives. The General Hospital showrunners also confirm that they are going to handle Robert’s passing the same way they did Monica Quartermaine‘s (Leslie Charleson)’s death when Leslie Charleson passed away in real life.
And that is another red flag right there about Dr. Tristan Roberts, because we might get a new relative of Robert’s the same way they did with Monica, when they had her long-lost sister, Veronica “Ronnie” Bard (Erika Slezak), pop up, with One Life to Live soap vet Erika Slezak in the role, and she was phenomenal. So if we do get a new relative of Robert’s, it could very well be Tristan.
Anna’s Devastation on GH
The person hit hardest in Port Charles obviously will be Anna, and it’s bad timing, because she’s already hanging by a thread after the trauma of Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) and Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) making her believe Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) was alive, then being locked up in France. Anna told her therapist that France is a trigger because she associates it with all of this trauma.
And Anna also told her therapist that she knows if she ever needs Robert, he would be there for her in a second. Well, sadly, he can’t be there for Anna if she needs him, and it shouldn’t be too much longer until she gets the news that Robert passed away. So, that is going to absolutely devastate Anna. She’s been through so much lately.
Losing Robert could push Anna over the edge again. We thought she was at her low point when she tried to kill Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). But Anna might spiral out even worse over Robert’s death, and I can see her turning to Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) for comfort.
General Hospital: Family and Friends Affected
The second person to talk about is Emma Scorpio Drake (Braedyn Bruner). She’s going to be worried about her grandma Anna. And of course, Emma will be personally devastated, because Robert’s her grandpa. And I’m sure we’re going to see Emma suffering and Giovanni Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) supporting her. That’s good timing, because they are moving in together, and Emma is going to need Gio a lot.
Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) will also be affected. Because she is the acting DA with Robert gone. And we know Justine is already planning to run officially for the position of district attorney. But with Robert retiring and tragically dying soon, Justine will probably have a much easier time in the coming election. And of course, she will feel terrible about Robert’s passing, and Justine will not want to benefit from it. But she already was acting DA, so it’s not like Robert had any issue with her. But Justine will feel terrible for Robert’s family and friends. And this could actually be a sign that Justine is going to stick around long-term.
Next, there’s Felicia and Mac Scorpio (John J York). They are going to be hit really hard. Because, of course, Robert is Mac’s brother, and he’s also Felicia’s brother-in-law. So, of course, they’re going to be crushed. And Mac’s newfound son, Cody Bell (Josh Kelly), is going to be upset. Because he just found out he’s part of the Scorpio family. And of course, Robert’s his uncle.
Expected Memorial Guests on GH
We are also expecting several big returns triggered by Robert’s death coming for his memorial, with Holly and Robert planning a visit soon, supposedly. I do expect that’s a sure sign that Holly will be back in Port Charles for Robert’s memorial. Holly’s portrayer, Emma Sams, lives in England, and she’s been battling long COVID for a while. So, her health has prevented her from making more appearances on General Hospital as Holly. But I don’t imagine she would miss a tribute to Tristan Rogers.
And I’m guessing we could see Ethan Lovett (Christian Howard) back. Holly’s son would surely be on hand to support her as she says goodbye to him. And then there’s Robert and Holly’s daughter, Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson), who moved to France with her daughter, Daisy Gilmore-Corinthos (Levi Clark Coughlin), so that she could be closer to her parents. And her portrayer, Sofia Mattsson, has taken a role over on Days of Our Lives, but I’m sure they would let her film a day or two for Robert’s memorial on General Hospital.
General Hospital Fan Favorites
Fans would love to see Sasha again. I know I would. And we’d expect to see Robert’s granddaughter, Daisy, with Sasha as well. That would be a treat for Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson). Plus, never forget, we also have Robert and Anna’s daughter, Robin Scorpio-Drake (Kimberly McCullough), who is very, very rarely seen these days. The last time we saw Kimberly McCullough was back in 2021, when she made a guest appearance as Robin for Sean Donely’s memorial service.
So, because Robin attended that memorial service for Sean, I would absolutely expect that they bring Kimberly McCullough to attend Robert’s memorial as well, since that’s her dad. So, we will drop more info as we get it, but we know Port Charles will never be the same after Robert Scorpio’s death is announced. However, it is really overdue for them to have this tribute to Tristan Rogers. And so we’re going to be looking for more leaks and spoilers about Robert Scorpio’s off-screen death. Because I suspect it could hit during November sweeps.
