Is there a mid-credits scene in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

Yes. Once Mario uses his Cape Feather to glide to the top of Princess Peach’s rebuilt castle, the credit title cards roll, featuring an extended peek at Bowser’s puppet show performances he used to do for Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie).

At the end of those visual credits, the mid-credits sequence begins on a planet that features a massive prison that holds the retrieved pieces of Dry Bowser and Bowser Jr. inside. On the grounds outside, Fox McCloud finally has his Arwing ship repaired, so he says his goodbyes to a Toad correctional officer and takes off to reunite with his crew.

Inside the prison, father and son are already working on an escape until their new guard appears — Lumalee, the Luma that first appeared in The Super Mario Bros. MovieShe’s now in charge of the Bowsers and makes it very clear that if they get out of line, she’s going to crush their bones with delight. It’s a great call back to the twisted portrayal of the Luma in the first film. Then, the black and white credits roll with no extra Easter eggs or animated sequences — until they’re done.

Is there a post-credits scene in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

Be sure to stay until the very end of the standard credit roll as you will be rewarded with a funny and surprising post-credits sequence.

The last scene returns viewers to Gateway Galaxy, where Ukiki the monkey (first introduced in the 1995 video game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island) is back to his thieving ways, snatching from unsuspecting travelers in the hub. However, his latest grab-and-go earns him an immediate punch to the mouth that lays him out. The camera then pans over to reveal who delivered that punch — and it’s none other than Princess Daisy!

Who is Nintendo’s Princess Daisy?

Game Boy players will know Princess Daisy from the 1989 game Super Mario Land, where she was first introduced as the ruler of Sarasaland. She was taken by a space alien named Tatanga and Mario set out to retrieve her as the main goal of that game. Princess Daisy didn’t show up again in a video game until she was a playable character in the 2000 Nintendo 64 game, Mario Tennis.

Daisy has since been woven into many Mario games, where she’s portrayed as more of a tomboy with a temper, hence the clobbering she gives Ukiki. The Mario games have implied over the years that Daisy and Luigi are a couple and that she is close friends with Princess Peach. Those video game storylines fit into The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, in which Luigi encourages Mario to date Peach, and asks him to see if she has a friend for him. Could that be a hint for a third Super Mario movie? Only time will tell!
