Fame has a way of changing people, for better or worse.
In Saturday Night Live‘s “Reality Stars” sketch, it seems to be the latter. January 27, 2018 Host Will Ferrell and Season 43 cast member Cecily Strong play Dane and Robyn, married stars of the fictional (yet believable) Kings and Queens of Santa Clarita. The newly-famous couple have returned home to Flagstaff to reunite with their old “normie” pals.
Just as their friends (Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Mikey Day, and Beck Bennett) are saying there’s no way they could be that different now, Robyn and Dane arrive with pre-poured glasses of wine and a small dog named Peanut who threatens to steal the show. And they’re thrilled to be there, or so they say.
“Give me reg peeps over Hollywoo-woo any day,” Dane insists. He and Robyn explain their product line of “weight-loss wine,” called “Slimfandel.”
“It’s got caffeine, Olestra, and Fen-Phen in it,” Robyn explains.”You get so much energy than then you go to the bathroom 11 times a day,” Dane adds.

The friends are less interested in the wine and more curious about why Robin and Dane’s faces look so…different.
“We got the most expensive procedure from the cheapest doctor we could find,” Dane admits.
“Well, it certainly looks like that,” Bryant’s character says.

Things go off the rails when Robyn and Dane invite their camera crew into the yard. Suddenly, the couple is ready to fight at any moment.
“Buddy, don’t make me hit you with my dog,” Dane threatens when Day’s character asks what’s happening. “Because I will do it! Peanut is locked and loaded!”
As Robyn and Dane act out, Bryant is the first to visibly start laughing. McKinnon, Day, and Beckett all seem to be struggling to hold back smiles at various points, with Ferrell low-key giggling as well.

Even Strong admitted she had a hard time. After the episode aired, Strong wrote about the sketch on Instagram.
“I told Lorne after the show that I might have broken during this sketch,” she said. “A comedy hero and a dog hero and lil’ ol’ me with a bad face lift gave me one of my favorite moments foreva eva. Like, this is one of those where on days where I’m not feeling great, I can watch this on YouTube and I’ll start laughing a bunch.”
You too can laugh a bunch by rewatching the sketch or even just thinking about Ferrell pelting Day and Beckett with chicken wings. It’s guaranteed to bring at least one extra smile to your day.

Few animated series have managed to feel as faithful to their source material while still carving out their own distinct identity the way ‘Invincible‘ has.
