How Old Do You Have to Be to Audition for The Voice? The Age Requirement, Explained

Do you dream of one day standing on The Voice stage singing your heart out for the Coaches, eager for that red chair turn? You’ve got nothing to lose by trying out! Pretty much anyone can audition, though of course there are a few eligibility requirements, and one of them is age.

No, you don’t have to be 18 to give it your best shot at NBC’s long-running singing competition, but there is a threshold, a magic number you’ve gotta reach before submitting your application.

How old do you have to be to audition for The Voice?

To audition for The Voice, Artists must be 13 years old.

Here’s exactly what it says in the eligibility requirements: “You must be at least thirteen (13) years of age by May 11, 2026. All applicants who meet this criterion, including all per-sons significantly older than thirteen (13) years of age, are welcome and encouraged to apply to be a participant.”

That’s right: there is no upper age limit, so tweens and beyond are totally allowed.

Please note that the official language goes on to state that applicants under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian fill out a consent form as part of the application process, so no, you can’t audition and surprise your family by popping up in a Blind Audition episode, as fun as that sounds.

Brynn Cartelli and Kelly Clarkson pose with Brynns trophy after winning season 14 of the voice

In 2021, Girl Named Tom became the first ever group to win, proving that Voice champions truly come in every shape and size.

In 2024, Sofronio Vasquez made history as the first Filipino winner of the series after wowing audiences and working with his Coach, Michael Bublé. “I put my trust in him,” Vasquez told NBC Insider.

Carter Rubin performs on the finale of Season 19 of The Voice

Just after 15-year-old Brynn Cartelli’s victory, Season 15 featured 14-year-old Kennedy Holmes in the Finals.

Additionally, 14-year-old Levi Watkins impressed during Season 18, and in Season 19, 14-year-old Carter Rubin did too… then went on to win the whole thing. Hailey Mia came in fourth during Season 21 at just 13; the same season, Keilah Grace competed at 15 and the Cunningham Sisters were 14 and 15.
