What records did Norway’s Johannes Høsflot Klæbo set at the 2026 Olympics?

The 29-year-old cross-country skier began his 2026 run with a February 8 gold medal-winning performance in the Men’s 10km + 10km Skiathlon and never looked back, ultimately winning an impressive 6 gold medals overall, one for each event that he competed in this year’s Games.

With the clean sweep, Klæbo became the Olympian athlete with the most gold medals earned in a single Winter Olympics — ever.

Previously, the record was held by U.S. speed skater Eric Heiden, who earned five in the Lake Placid 1980 Winter Olympics.

Klæbo now has more gold medals than any other Winter Olympics athlete.

How many gold medals does Johannes Høsflot Klæbo have?

Klæbo now has a total of 11 Olympic gold medals over the course of his career: six from the 2026 Games, two from 2022, and three from 2018.

Klæbo is only behind only swimmer Michael Phelps when it comes to overall (Summer and Winter) Olympic gold medal leaders. But Klæbo has quite a ways to go to reach the legendary U.S. swimmer’s gold medal count since Phelps has 23 of them!

“Even though I’ve been nervous at some of the competitions, it still feels really good to race, and I’m always looking forward to going out there, fighting for medals,” Klæbo told Olympics.com. “I have a very supportive family and fiancée. Together we’re making the right choices and the result of that is six gold medals.”
