Actor Connor Storrie‘s February 28 Saturday Night Live monologue managed to make every hockey fan happy, whether they follow men’s hockey, women’s hockey, and/or the completely fictional TV kind.
Quinn Hughes and his brother Jack Hughes joined Storrie onstage in Studio 8H, on the heels of a big week: they earned a gold medal win against Canada at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, and subsequently visited the White House and appeared in Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech. But the Hughes brothers didn’t come alone: USA women’s hockey captain Hilary Knight and teammate Megan Keller soon joined them beside Storrie.
“Quinn and Jack, you guys literally just won the Olympics. Congrats,” Storrie told the brothers.
“Thanks. But we’ve been so busy playing, we haven’t had time to see your show yet,” Jack Hughes told Storrie, as Quinn added, “it’s about hockey, right?”
“Kind of,” Storrie said of his steamy hit Heated Rivalry series, in which he plays a Russian player having a love affair with his Canadian rival (Hudson Williams).

“I got my teeth knocked out in the finals. Does that happen on your show?” Jack Hughes asked Storrie.
“Metaphorically,” Storrie joked, before explaining the Boston Raiders play for the “HBO league.” Just as Storrie was wishing wished some hockey players watched Heated Rivalry, two viewers showed up: Knight and Keller. Their arrival caused a loudly excited reaction from the audience, and the two women had to take a moment to let it dissipate before they could even speak.

“Oh, wow. Hilary, Megan, it’s so cool that we’re all here,” Storrie said, looking around at the five of them.
“It was gonna be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too,” Knight said.
“Yeah, we thought we’d give them a little moment to shine,” Keller added.
“Well, that is very important,” said Storrie, who shepherded the multi-cameo moment with ease. “You know, my show speaks to people who are not always represented in hockey. So this is really great, to have actual hockey legends here tonight. I mean, both of your teams just won the gold.”
“Thanks. The last time the men did that was 46 years ago,” Quinn Hughes said. Jack Hughes’ overtime goal won the 2026 game against Canada, and it was indeed the first time Team USA’s men’s hockey team has won an Olympic gold medal since 1980.
“And the last time we did that was two whole Olympics ago,” Knight noted. Team USA’s women’s hockey team also beat Canada PyeongChang in 2018, and they medaled silver at Beijing in 2022.
“Nice burn. But these gold medals aren’t just for us.They’re for all hockey fans. Yours, too,” Jack Hughes told Knight.
“Oh. So can I try one on?” Storrie asked, to absolute “No”s all around.
As a hockey fan noted on X (formerly Twitter), Keller came all the way to SNL after winning a game with her Boston Fleet team in Canada that very day. “Megan Keller played 29:17 and had an assist in Boston’s shootout win this afternoon in Ottawa,” they wrote. “A few hours later, she’s guesting with Hilary Knight and the Hughes brothers on SNL. Quite the day.”

But it seems the Olympians were pretty generous with their medals backstage. SNL writer Ceara Jane O’Sullivan shared an Instagram story photo of Keller and Knight with Marcello Hernández and Sarah Sherman dressed as monkeys for “Weekend Update,” in which Hernández is wearing a gold.
And at goodnights, on a very crowded stage that featured the SNL cast, the four hockey players, host Storrie and surprise guest Hudson Williams, Musical Guests Mumford & Sons and their surprise guests Hozier and Sierra Ferrell, Marcus Mumford got his chance to try a gold medal, too. Guess the win really is for everyone.
Speaking of the goodnights (watch them here), a keen-eyed viewer snapped screenshots of what appeared to be a tender moment between Knight and Storrie. As Knight told Storrie something that isn’t audible in the clip, Storrie looked visibly emotional as he clasped his hands and said “Thank you.”
“Hilary Knight really taking her time to thank and congratulate Connor at the end – she really is the best the sport of hockey has to offer,” the fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Hozier takes a moment to greet both Storrie and Hudson and speak to them as well.
Knight had a really, really great time in Italy: In addition to bringing home another medal, she got engaged to Olympic speed skater Brittany Bowe at the Games.
