Flea’s Stunning Cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You” Has Gone Viral for a Reason

Flea’s Stunning Cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You” Has Gone Viral for a Reason

Flea blew the audience away during his March 23 performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The longtime bass player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers delivered something unexpected: a stunning cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You” that took fans’ perception of him and turned it completely upside-down.

Armed with his bass and a trumpet, Flea (real name Michael Peter Balzary) led a small orchestral arrangement through the classic tune in style. No words were necessary, as Flea let his musical prowess do the talking.

The 63-year-old Australian-American musician was about as far away from his high-energy, brash persona as one of the world’s best-known bassists. His version of the 2012 soul ballad was so unexpected Jimmy Fallon called it “beautiful” after the performance ended.

Flea covered “Thinkin Bout You” to promote his new solo jazz album, Honora

Flea announced his foray into the world of jazz with his solo album, Honora, set for release on March 27.

The album, a mix of covers and original songs, is about as far away from a Red Hot Chili Peppers record as possible. As evidenced in the video above.

Why did Flea have a bandage on his head on The Tonight Show?

No cause for alarm — as it turns out, Flea suffered a “bizarre peeing accident,” as he so eloquently put it.

During his sit-down interview segment, Flea explained that, in the middle of performing a recent radio show, he felt the urge to pee — a sensation everyone can relate to.

“I jump up, I run down the hallway, I pee, I’m coming back, I’m wearing my reading glasses, I yell something to someone running full sprint down the hallway, mind you, and bam! Smack into a glass door, flat on my back, blood spurting out of my head,” he explained. “I’m laying there, and I’m going, ‘Oh, man, I got to do the Fallon show in a few days. I’ll tell him I got in a fight.'”

The star said that it wasn’t his first pee-related accident, revealing that he peed the bed until he was “11 or 12 years old.”

It was at that point that he directly addressed the viewers watching at home.

“I am one of you. You are not alone,” Flea announced. “I know what it’s like to sleep over at someone’s house, and you pee the bed, and you wake up in a sea of urine. I know the embarrassment. I know the pain. I know the lack of self-esteem… And to bedwetters, I want you to know you can be a bedwetter and you can make it all the way to the Jimmy Fallon motherf—in’ show!” Inspiring words.
