The Hysterical Way SVU’s Camera Crew Surprised Mariska Hargitay on the Last Day of Filming Season 27

The Hysterical Way SVU’s Camera Crew Surprised Mariska Hargitay on the Last Day of Filming Season 27

Filming for Season 27 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has officially wrapped, and the crew marked the occasion with a fun surprise for Mariska Hargitay.

The longtime SVU star gave fans a peek behind the scenes from the last day of filming, sharing an on-set snap in an April 8 Instagram post. As it turned out, some of the crew members on the NBC crime drama show paid tribute to her in a really fun way.

As seen in the photo, the camera crew — and even Hargitay herself — are all decked out in matching Hawaiian shirts with Hargitay’s face printed all over them.

The hilarious photo shows lots of smiling, laughing faces, including the person who’s brought Olivia Benson to life for the past 27 years.

“That feeling when you show up on the LAST day of filming SEASON 27 and your beloved camera department surprises you with your mug on their Hawaiian Friday shirts,” Hargitay captioned her social media post. “Man, I love these people.”

NBC‘s official Law & Order franchise Instagram account got in on the fun in the post’s comments section.

“We know what we’ll be wearing all summer,” a comment from the account read, complete with sunglasses and palm tree emojis.

Hargitay has called SVU her “second home”

It wasn’t the first time Hargitay’s SVU family surprised the star with something special on the last day of filming. Back in 2023, the crew presented Hargitay with a framed puzzle of the moon in honor of the Season 24 episode she directed, “King of the Moon.”

“When you spend so much time at work, it really does become your second home. And such an important support system,” Hargitay wrote in a 2023 Instagram post that included a photo of her holding up the framed moon. “Just wanted to shout out and thank these wonderful humans for surprising me with the most PERFECT wrap present to commemorate [‘King of the Moon’].”

New Season 27 episodes of Law & Order: SVU air Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC, with episodes available the following day on Peacock.

Ice T as Sgt. Odafin

Ice T to appear in SVU‘s final three episodes

Meanwhile, Ice T‘s Sergeant Fin Tutuola — who was brutally attacked in the Season 27 premiere and has been taking it easy while recovering — was back on SVU for the show’s April 9 episode, “Deep Under.”

And Ice T has assured fans that Fin will close out Season 27 “with a bang.”

“I am on the last three episodes of the season,” the actor said in a behind-the-scenes video he posted on March 10. “I know you guys have been waiting to see me back, but I’ve been doing a lot of other cool things. But in the meantime, yes, I’m on the set. We’re now shooting the last three episodes, that’s Episode 19, 20, and 21.”

Ice T teased, “They saved me for the end… But thank you, for all the people out there that have been wanting to see more Fin on the show. But like I told you earlier, they said they were gonna sprinkle me through the season. Here we are, I’m bringing up the rear, gonna make sure we go out with a bang.”
