From the show that brought you a men’s podcast that’s actually a doctor visit, there’s a new way to get men to open up about their lives.
Saturday Night Live‘s “Uneek Kutz Barbershop” sketch from Colman Domingo‘s April 11 episode introduces three men (Mikey Day, Ben Marshall, and Tommy Brennan) who’ve “hit rock bottom.” One’s recently divorced, another’s depressed, and their self-confidence is faltering.
“And as a man, therapy never seemed like a real option,” one (Marshall) tells the camera. And then there’s the cost.
“But then, I found about Uneek Kutz,” Day’s character says over footage of a barbershop owner (Host Colman Domingo) starting his day.
“Black barbershops is a radically new alternative to mental health treatment for white guys — without the stigma,” a voice-over says.

The thesis of the sketch: Men would rather step a teensy bit outside of their comfort zone when getting a haircut than go to therapy.
“It doesn’t matter who you were before you walked in,” says Blake C. (Brennan). “Because the brothers at Uneek Kutz allow you to have a fresh start.” Blake’s fresh start includes a new nickname from his barber (Domingo): Jeffrey Dahmer.
Dave (Day), or “Little Epstein” as he’s called by the Uneek barbers, is soon getting a lesson from Domingo’s character on how to keep his wife happy. Lessons that, according to one happy girlfriend (Jane Wickline), are working.

Blake points out that while therapy costs hundreds of dollars, “the homies at Uneek only charge 50 bucks, and I can stay there all day.”
That doesn’t mean the clients are always ready for tough debates — such as which woman on classic sitcom Martin was the hottest, Gina or her best friend Pam.
“I don’t know who those ladies are!” Dave sputters.
But as Domingo’s character describes the extremely valid reasons why his business is such an important place, we learn that Dave (now wearing a durag) has learned a lot in his time there.
The sketch was written by Michael Che and Carl Tart, according to Tart’s April 12 Instagram story. “Did this with Che,” Tart wrote.
