SNL’s Shop TV Returns with Olivia Rodrigo Selling an X-Rated Lava Cake
The newest installment of Shop TV didn’t disappoint …that one breathy caller who dials in every time, that is.
In “Shop TV: Lava Cake” from the May 2 episode of Saturday Night Live, Olivia Rodrigo played the latest small business owner to unintentionally scandalize its hosts Rhett and Bev (Mikey Day and Ashley Padilla).
Rodrigo’s character, Daisy Rae Rutledge, was on the show to sell her lava cakes. The one she’s brought is chocolate and comes in a reusable tin, and its shape raises immediate questions.
“Y’all ever seen anything like that?” Daisy asks them.
“Uh, just my wife’s once and my cat’s every day,” Rhett stammers. “Daisy, why does your cake got a little starfish in the middle there?”
“Oh, baby, that’s the fudge hole,” Daisy explains, as Bev shakes her head and murmurs “no, that can’t be what it’s called.”
The oven steam from its fudge filling “needs somewhere to escape so it pops a cute little hole in the top,” Daisy continues, rubbing her finger in a circle around the “flavor wrinkles.”
When they take customer calls, one regular (Kenan Thompson) says, “I think it look like a big ol’ butth—” before they scramble to hang up.

Olivia Rodrigo is the fifth Shop TV visitor in SNL’s recurring sketch
“Bev, stick your nose in the fudge hole and take a biiig whiff,” Rodrigo’s character offers.
“Oh, that was an awful sentence so I think I’m gonna pass,” Bev defers, before making the poor choice to put her face next to it on camera. But Rhett arguably gets the worse deal as he sticks his finger inside and gooey peanut butter leaks out. And wait’ll you see that fresh-baked, steamy fudge hole.

“Lava Cake” was the fifth installment of the recurring sketch. The most recent previous entry starred October 18 Host Sabrina Carpenter as Virginia Duffy, inventor of some truly jaw-dropping pillows. The very first installment starred Season 48 Host Jerrod Carmichael as a wrongheaded doll maker, and the second had Adam Driver selling a chocolate Santa that looks much different unwrapped.

In Season 50, Michael Keaton joined as Toby the Cookie Guy, and it’s important to know that the circles in the center are zombie eyes, not whatever you’re thinking it looks like.
