‘American Idol’ winner and current judge, Carrie Underwood, didn’t hold back when criticizing ‘self-serving’ Hollywood.

Carrie Underwood Blasts Hollywood As ‘Self-Serving’

Carrie Underwood was just 22 years old when she won Season 4 of American Idol. Two decades later, she’s one of the reality competition’s most successful winners. She continues to sell out tours and Las Vegas residencies. But fame isn’t as good as it seems.

In a candid interview with Fox News, the singer opened up about how people can lose themselves in “self-serving” Hollywood. “When you’re in the entertainment industry, there’s a lot of things that, and I’ve said this before, it’s just not real life. You can get caught up in a lot,” she said.

The American Idol winner continued, “You’re kind of in a self-serving business. Everybody around you is there to make sure you’re good, and you’re happy, and you have everything you need, and I feel like you can start to… You can lose your roots real fast, you know.” So, how has she kept her roots after all these years?

How She Stays Grounded

Carrie Underwood has lived a very public life since she won the singing competition. She does, however, try to keep her personal life as private as possible. She shares two children with her husband, former hockey player Mike Fisher. The family lives on a farm in Tennessee. The American Idol winner often shares snapshots of farm life on social media.

Despite her massive fame, Carrie Underwood has stayed down to earth. How? “I think faith is the only way to keep you grounded,” she shared. The singer is a devout Christian.

Fans Think Her Faith Influencing American Idol

Carrie Underwood has always been outspoken about her faith. She opened up to Fox News about what it meant to her to have a faith-based American Idol episode. “I think it’s for me personally being here on our songs of faith night. It was just joyful, you know, it was happy,” she said.

But some American Idol viewers were unhappy that the latest episode only featured Christian songs during the “Songs of Faith” theme night. They took to Reddit to share their thoughts on the episode.

  • “I thought American Idol is a secular show??? What about atheist/agnostic people who compete,” a viewer wrote to kick off the discussion.

Did Carrie Underwood heavily influence the theme night? Check out some of the other comments on the post:

  • “Thank / blame Carrie (or ABC for agreeing to her demands).”
  • “I have no problem with the songs of faith theme, but the child preacher, the prayer, the bloody dress. It all seemed like a parody to me.”
  • “what if you aren’t a religious person? What about the audience? Doesn’t seem very inclusive”
  • “it feels forced and the last things we need is more performative Christian’s in the public sphere.”

Carrie Underwood relies on her faith to stay grounded, but do you think she pushes it too far?
