Between the non-stop thrills and high-stakes investigations of Chicago P.D., Chihards are quick to perk up when a heartwarming moment arrives, and viewers may have found themselves swooning during Season 13’s latest.
P.D.‘s Season 13, Episode 5 “Live and Die by Your CI” featured a blood-pumping investigation led by Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati). As a longtime P.D. power couple, Chihards loved seeing the cherished partners join forces amid the rare absence of Voight, proving yet again that when the going gets tough, Burzek will always get going.

Amid the adrenaline-fueled investigation, Ruzek still found a way to sneak in some flirtatious banter with Burgess during the thrilling case.
Ruzek called Burgess “love” while asking for a favor
After Ruzek agreed to orchestrate a meet-up between a former criminal informant and a DEA agent, Ruzek was shocked when it turned into a shooting. While Ruzek was able to escape the gun fight unscathed, Burgess was eager to check in on her husband and figure out why everything turned south.
Ruzek confessed he had no clue, but the C.I. seemed to have been as caught off guard. Ruzek fretted over potentially blowing the CI’s cover, wondering how he could trust that the D.E.A. had the C.I.’s best interests in mind. Ruzek confessed to Burgess that something “felt off” about the entire ordeal, wanting to bring his concerns up the chain.

“We’ve got to call Voight,” Ruzek told her. “I don’t feel comfortable handing this off to the D.E.A.”
“We can’t call Voight,” Burgess explained with annoyance. “He’s in Springfield for mandatory recertification.”
“Alright, well,” Ruzek shrugged with a flirtatious grin. Voight’s absence had done nothing to sway his persistence. “Then I think you’re up, my love.”
Burgess passed off the comment with a smirk, but the brief moment of Ruzek revealing his pet name for his wife was too romantic not to notice.
Ruzek returned to Season 13 with gusto on Chicago P.D.
Ruzek has recently been taking some time away from the 21st Precinct to handle some personal business relating to his father, Bob (Jack Coleman). Ever since discovering Bob’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis in Season 12 of Chicago P.D., Ruzek has done everything he can to support his father, eventually setting Bob up in a long-term care facility that could take better care of him. However, after Bob’s health took a turn in Season 13, Ruzek has been pulled away from the line of duty.
During Season 13’s “Meant to Be,” Ruzek returned to the Intelligence Unit after a brief hiatus, giving Burgess an update on Bob’s health. “He’s stable, but he didn’t know where he was at all last night, so it was pretty brutal, actually,” Ruzek explained. “I think it’s going to be months, not years.”
He likely appreciated the opportunity to return to his post at the 21st Precinct while distracting himself with the latest case. Between his father’s decline and moving out of his childhood home, Ruzek is navigating some emotional changes this season on Chicago P.D., and Chihards can’t wait to see where the action takes him and Burgess next.
