Jennifer Lawrence has been dressing more on trend this summer. Earlier this month, she wore wide-leg jeans; on another occasion, a wrap around her waist; and yesterday, she appeared in sneakerinas — the sporty, chic ballet-flat sneakers we’ve loved from the start. We first reported on the trend last year with Simone Rocha’s version of the shoe, which the designer called “a clash of the ballet pump with a more ergonomic technical shoe.”

Lawrence opted for a pair of black-and-brown mary jane sneakerinas from British designer Wales Bonner. This specific style features a Velcro strap and a thick rubber sole, making it great for trekking the streets of New York. Lawrence styled them with a graphic Picasso T-shirt and flashy coral pants. In addition, she tied a navy sweater around her neck and accessorized with a crochet tote, black bucket hat, and oversize sunglasses. If you’re considering a pair for yourself, these shoes are priced at $625, but they’re on sale at Ssense, along with a few of our other favorite pieces.

These sneakerinas were not only a fashionable move by Lawrence but a practical one. She returned to New York and needed something stylish, as always, but step-count-friendly. Even the staunchest footwear fans are divided over this trend, but I have bad news for the haters — the sneakerina isn’t just a micro-trend that’s run its course, it is here to stay.
