Marvel looks different in 2025. Captain America: Brave New World did okay at the box office, scoring $370 million, but it paled in comparison to the $1.15 billion earned by the previous Captain America installment, and Thunderbolts* also made $370 million. Both box-office totals are far below pre-COVID numbers, when even less popular features like Ant-Man and the Wasp could rake in over $600 million. So it should come as no surprise that, as soon as Marvel can, it’s getting back to what it knows works: friendly neighborhood Tom Holland. Below, find all the information we know about Spider-Man 4, including new additions like Jon Bernthal, a new release date, and its new name: Brand New Day.

Okay … so Tom Holland is back?

Yes, Tom Holland is back. So is Zendaya, for that matter. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will direct.

Who else is in the cast? Get ready for punishment. Jon Bernthal, who plays the Punisher in the MCU, is the movie’s newest edition, per The Hollywood Reporter on June 22. This will be Bernthal’s first time taking the character to the big screen after playing him for almost a decade on television. Bernthal made his debut on the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil in 2016 before getting his own Netflix series, The Punisher, in 2019. Then he was brought back for Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ in 2025. It has been a long journey to get him here, but does this mean we’ll get a Jessica Jones movie?

Meanwhile, Sadie Sink will play a new role to the Marvel Universe, per Deadline. Sink is best known as the reason “Running Up That Hill” went so viral after season four of Stranger Things, though she has also acted in prominent projects like The Whale. There’s no confirmation of whom she’ll play in Marvel, though some are theorizing her red tresses are being tapped to play Jean Grey (a.k.a. Phoenix), an X-Men character who was last played by Sophie Turner. If it’s not Jean Grey, Sink could very well play another universe’s version of Mary Jane, a redhead in the comics, though Zendaya’s MJ has brown hair in the current MCU.

What’s the movie called?

On March 31 at CinemaCon 2025, Holland let the title slip — at least this time, the reveal was on purpose. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start,” Holland confirmed via video message, without any more details to share. Maybe he would have shared more if it had been an in-person announcement.

When is the release date?

Spider-Man 4 is now slated to come out on July 31, 2026. It was previously set to hit theaters a week earlier, but the new date gives it more space from the July 17, 2026, release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, in which Holland is also starring. Both Spider-Man 4 and The Odyssey are expected to film in 2025, which makes this quite a year for the beer salesman. And if that isn’t enough, per THR he has been cast as Austin Butler’s brother in the upcoming American Speed and is likely — though not confirmed — to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. We just hope he has started practicing the art of not giving up information on press tours because he has a lot of them coming up.
