Lily Allen doesn’t seem to be rushing toward a fairytale ending with love after her recently found success.

Allen’s album “West End Girl”, where she detailed the emotional fallout and breakdown of her relationship with David Harbour, quickly became a major talking point. The pair met in 2019 and were married in a surprise ceremony in September of 2020. They separated in February of 2025 after four years of marriage.

With her latest record making waves, Allen is opening up on how her perspective has completely changed.

In a new interview, the “Smile” performer disclosed how the commercial achievements of her project have impacted how she approaches relationships.

“I’m living in the day, not planning too much,” she shared. The star is currently on tour, after wrapping up a string of North American shows and gearing up for the final leg in Oceania.

“I feel like I’m here: a single mum supporting two teenagers on my own. I don’t need to be taken care of any more. There’s definitely a sense of liberation in that,” Allen gushed to The Times.

Despite being in a new relationship with London-based writer Jonah Freud, Allen is content with the way things are for now. “There’s always going to be a part of me that wants a happy ending — but also, not really. I’m starting to see through that,” she declared.

Allen’s comment comes five months after her ex-partner Harbour broke his silence about the project.

One particular song talks about a partner who is jealous of her accomplishments and keeps a separate apartment to have sex with people. Listeners were quick to conclude that the song was about the “Stranger Things” actor.

Seemingly addressing the speculations, Harbour said in an interview, “It was weird. I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.”

He then added, per The Blast, “I can’t really say that much more because it’s my private life.”

When given the chance to set the record straight about the claims on “West End Girl,” the “Stranger Things” actor maintained his silence, declaring that “stories were complex.”

Following Harbor’s remark, the 41-year-old expressed gratitude for her estranged husband’s statement, saying, “I think that was a generous thing for him to say.”

Allen also had praise for the actor, commending the direction of his career while also calling him an excellent performer.

“He’s having a real moment of success as well, right? He’s been nominated for an Emmy, and it’s great. We’re all doing our own thing, and we’re all doing what we’re supposed to do,” she shared

Away from her ex-husband’s comments, Allen also had a message for those who have been less than impressed with her live show.

Back in June, one audience member expressed disappointment at the £86 ticket price for a performance that lasted less than an hour with no opening act or audience interaction. During her show, Allen sings all fourteen songs from the album back to back in a dramatic solo performance

After the criticism went viral, yhe mother of two was quick to point out that it was her artistic choice not to interact with the crowd, as the fourth wall was part of the experience.

She also noted that the concert run was marketed as performed, adding she did not want anyone to feel cheated.

Despite pushing back against critics of her tour, Allen has also faced challenges behind the scenes, with poor ticket sales reportedly forcing her to downsize some of her scheduled venues.

Reports emerged in July that Allen downsized several venues on the North American leg and canceled a Montreal concert for September 8.

She also changed the location of a September 6 Philadelphia show from Xfinity Mobile Arena to the TD Pavilion at Highmark Mann.

Her show at Kia Forum in Inglewood was then moved to the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, while that of San Francisco’s Chase Center was also relocated to the Paramount Theatre in Oakland.

Similarly, the Chicago show was adjusted from a 23,500-capacity to a 3,500-capacity theater, per The Blast.
