One of the NFL’s greatest coaches is joining NBC Sports this fall, bringing his invaluable insight to the Football Night in America pre-game show that airs ahead of each week’s Sunday Night Football primetime matchup. Who is it? Well, he should be a familiar face for Pittsburgh Steelers fans.
Mike Tomlin, the Super Bowl‑winning former head coach of the Steelers and one of the NFL’s most respected figures, is joining NBC Sports as a studio analyst. He’ll be working with NBC Sports all season, drawing on his 19‑year head coaching career to provide insight on the day’s games, bring context to the biggest moments, and of course preview each week’s Sunday Night Football matchup. Tomlin coaches the Steelers through the 2025 season, and was one of the most consistent coaches in the league, never finished with a losing record during his tenure.

“I’m humbled and honored to come alongside the best group in sports, and really looking forward to the challenge of presenting the NFL to fellow football lovers on Sunday nights,” Tomlin said in a statement . “I’ve been a part of a team since 1980, and I can’t wait to join this one and help continue delivering high quality coverage along with my new teammates on Football Night in America.”
About Mike Tomlin, NBC Sports’ newest NFL voice
Tomlin was one of the NFL’s longest‑tenured head coaches, spending 19 seasons as head coach of the Steelers (2007–2025). During that time he compiled 193 regular‑season wins — ranking ninth all‑time — and 13 postseason appearances. Tomlin led the Steelers to a victory in Super Bowl XLIII, defeating the Arizona Cardinals 27–23, and becoming the youngest head coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl at age 36. Tomlin’s leadership in the NFL over the past two decades led him to many other roles across the league, including a prominent place on the influential NFL Competition Committee.
“When Mike Tomlin talks, people listen. He’s one of the most iconic and respected coaches and voices in the NFL,” Sam Flood, NBC Sports’ Executive Producer and President, Production, said. “We’re excited that this Super Bowl-winning coach is coming straight from the sideline to Football Night in America. His perspective and passion for the game will add an authentic new voice to NFL Sundays.”
Hosted by Maria Taylor, Football Night in America has been the most‑watched studio show in sports in all 20 of its seasons on NBC and serves as the lead‑in to Sunday Night Football. NBC Sports is home to Sunday Night Football, which has finished as primetime television’s No. 1 show for a record‑setting 15 consecutive seasons.
Sunday Night Football, and Football Night in America with Tomlin, return this fall on NBC and Peacock with the biggest NFL games of the week!
