Tish Cyrus Reveals She Was ‘Just Trying To Survive’ After Heartbreaking Death
Tish Cyrus had three children with her ex-husband: Miley, Braison, and Noah. The country singer adopted her two other children, Brandi and Trace, from a previous relationship. She’s also the stepmother of Billy Ray’s son from another relationship. Noah Cyrus reportedly had a huge falling out with her mother a few years ago.
Tish Cyrus recently joined actor Taylor Lautner’s wife, Tay, on The Squeeze podcast. She opened up about one of the most difficult times in her life when she suffered a huge personal loss. Her mother, Loretta Finley, passed away at 85 in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. Miley Cyrus was especially close to her grandmother, whom she called “Mammie.”
“She’d go to the set with Miley and just my kids just worshiped her,” Tish Cyrus said about her mom visiting the Hannah Montana set in Los Angeles, California. Once the show was over, “Mammie” moved to a house next to Miley and her family. “She was just a massive part of our lives,” Tish Cyrus said about her mom.
The heartbreaking loss sent her into a spiral. “I’m sure anyone that has experienced anxiety at that level, it is horrible. Absolutely horrible, and it lasted a long time. And I just now am really learning how to deal with it, and I’m so much better. Like, I was not functioning for that year — I was just trying to survive,” she admitted. But that wasn’t the only struggle she’d go through around that time.
Her Marriage Ended During The ‘Roughest’ Time In Her Life
Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus’s marriage was in trouble for a long, long time. They had filed for divorce three times over the years before officially ending their marriage. Tish Cyrus filed for divorce in 2022 after quietly separating in 2020.
“I thought I was going to be alone forever. And that was one of the times that I had the crippling breakdown of anxiety. I joke about it and say I had a complete psychological breakdown. There were 30 days where I was not eating, sleeping, just felt like I was just coming out of my skin. And it was really scary,” she told PEOPLE magazine in 2024.
Tish Cyrus later married Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell. Before their marriage, he reportedly had a thing with her youngest daughter, Noah. Tish and Noah Cyrus have since reconciled after a feud over the situation.
Tish Cyrus said that her marriage to Dominic Purcell helped her deal with the anxiety she suffered after her mother’s death. “I think it gave me this place to stand still and, like, feel all these feelings.” The “roughest” time in her life is over and she made it through.
