WINDSWEPT

Episode 1: The Winds of Change

ACT I – The Funeral

A storm threatens the horizon. The Windswept estate looms—white stone, black iron, and the scent of salt and secrets. Guests in black mill about like chess pieces. A string quartet plays something mournful and manipulative. The cellist is crying. No one asks why.

A vintage red convertible pulls up. The engine purrs, then cuts. Silence falls.

EMERALD CAVALIER steps out, late and unapologetic. She wears red. Not crimson. Not burgundy. Red. The kind that makes enemies flinch and lovers remember. Her heels are lacquered. Her lipstick is war paint.

She removes her sunglasses slowly, revealing eyes that have already cried—just not for Malcolm.

EMERALD
(to herself, surveying the estate)
Still standing. Shame.

She walks forward. Her heels click like punctuation. Conversations pause. Heads turn. A woman gasps. A man whispers, “She came.” Another mutters, “She shouldn’t have.”

A valet offers to take her keys. She tosses them without looking. He fumbles. She doesn’t stop.

VALER
Miss—uh—Ms. Cavalier?

She doesn’t answer. She’s already inside.

CUT TO: INT. WINDSWEPT ESTATE – GRAND SALON – CONTINUOUS

A casket rests beneath a chandelier. White lilies. Silent judgment. The room is curated grief. The air smells like old money and new regret.

BIRDIE LANGFORD, veiled and venomous, stands at the podium. Her hands grip the edges like she’s holding back a tide. Her voice is velvet dipped in arsenic.

BIRDIE
Malcolm Ashby was a man of vision.
He saw Windsor Island not as it was, but as it could be.
And he saw people the same way—
flawed, yes, but full of potential.
(beat) Some fulfilled it. Some squandered it.
Some… are still deciding.

She lets the silence linger like perfume. Then:

BIRDIE
He believed in reinvention. Which is fortunate,
considering how many of us needed it.

She scans the room. Her gaze lands on Emerald. A flicker of something—recognition, resentment, regret. She doesn’t blink.

BIRDIE
He loved this island. Even when it betrayed him.
Especially then.

BACK OF THE ROOM

TROY WILDER, 30s, sharp-eyed, scribbles in a leather notebook. He’s not here to mourn. He’s here to document the unravelling. His handwriting is erratic—like he’s chasing ghosts.

He glances up as Emerald enters. His pen pauses. He exhales—slow, deliberate.

TROY
(to himself) She’s late. She’s red.
She’s bait.

He flips to a fresh page. Labels it: Funeral, Act I.

SIDE OF THE ROOM

CELESTE LANGFORD watches Emerald approach. Her jaw tightens. She smooths her skirt, then folds her hands—white-knuckled. Her earrings are pearls. Her smile is porcelain.

CELESTE
You always knew how to make an entrance.

EMERALD
And you always knew how to hold it against me.

CELESTE
Red. At a funeral.

EMERALD
Malcolm would’ve approved. He liked his women
colorful and his exits theatrical.

CELESTE
He liked control. You were the exception.
And the mistake.

EMERALD
Funny. That’s what he said
about marrying your sister.

Celeste flinches. Emerald smiles—small, sharp, and gone in a blink.

CELESTE
You shouldn’t be here.

EMERALD
Neither should half this room.
But grief is a performance, darling.
I’m just better at it.

EMPTY CHAIR NEAR THE FRONT

NIGEL ASHBY is conspicuously absent. The chair is pristine. Untouched. A single white rose rests on the seat. No one claims it.

BIRDIE
(noticing) Some silences are
louder than eulogies.

CUT TO: INT. ST. BARNABY’S HOSPITAL – BREAK ROOM – SAME

NIA HART, 30s, composed, sips coffee. Her stethoscope is coiled like a snake. Her eyes are tired but sharp.

DARIUS SHERIDAN, 30s, restless, paces. His badge is clipped to his belt. His shirt is pressed. His conscience is wrinkled.

DARIUS
You’re quiet.

NIA
I’m thinking.

DARIUS
About the case?

NIA
About the family behind it.

DARIUS
Ashby?

NIA
The patient died the same day Malcolm did.
Same time. Same funding source.
Same missing paperwork.

DARIUS
You think it’s connected?

NIA
Coincidence?
This island doesn’t do improv.

Darius stops pacing. He watches her. She doesn’t look up.

DARIUS
You’re past the question.
You’re writing the answer.

NIA
I’m remembering what happens when
truth gets buried on this island.

DARIUS
And what happens when you dig it up?

NIA
You find out who paid for the shovel.

CUT TO:

INT. THE RUSTY PELICAN – MORNING RUSH

MAURA BLAKE, 20s, pours coffee. NICK RANSOM, 30s, charming, leans on the counter.

NICK
You hear about the funeral?

MAURA
I saw it. Sort of.

NICK
You were there?

MAURA
Not exactly.

She glances at her phone. A paused video. Grainy. Two men. A kiss. Timestamp: Live.

MAURA (CONT’D)
Someone streamed it. Two angles.
One shaky. One damning.

NICK
You okay?

MAURA
I’m fine. Just wondering
how many secrets fit in one island.

NICK
Depends on the tide.

He watches her. She doesn’t meet his eyes. He notices. Files it away.

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT I

ACT II – The Broadcast Hijack

FADE IN:

INT. WINDSWEPT ESTATE – GRAND SALON – LATER

The funeral has shifted into curated mourning. Champagne flows. Grief is accessorized. Conversations hum like bees around a wound.

BIRDIE LANGFORD raises a glass. Her veil is gone. Her eyes are sharp. Her voice is silk over steel.

BIRDIE
To Malcolm. May his legacy outlive his mistakes.
And may those who mistook proximity
for intimacy learn the difference.

She sips. Doesn’t flinch. Doesn’t blink.

EMERALD

(to Celeste, sotto) She’s sharpening
her eulogy into a weapon. How very Birdie.

CELESTE
(dry) She’s grieving.
You should try it sometime.

EMERALD
(smiling without warmth) I did.
For five minutes. Then I remembered who he was.

CELESTE
(tightening) And who you were to him.

EMERALD
A mirror. Not a mistress.

CELESTE
Mirrors crack.

EMERALD
Only when people throw stones
they can’t afford.

Celeste exhales through her nose. Her fingers twitch at her clutch. Emerald sips her champagne like it’s a dare.

CUT TO:

INT. LANGFORD MEDIA CONTROL ROOM – SAME

A technician frowns at the console. Static flickers. The feed stutters.

TECHNICIAN
We’re losing signal. Wait—
someone’s hijacked the feed—

He reaches for the override. Too late.

CUT TO:

INT. GRAND SALON – CONTINUOUS

The screen behind the casket flickers. Static. Then:

A grainy video. Two men. A kiss.

NIGEL ASHBY. TROY WILDER.

Gasps ripple. A glass drops. Birdie’s. It shatters like a verdict.

GRAHAM SHERIDAN stiffens. His jaw clenches. LEE SHERIDAN watches him—eyes narrowing, calculating.

CELESTE
(softly) Well. That’s one way to mourn.

EMERALD
(without blinking) Or to confess.

Troy, across the room, doesn’t move. He watches the screen like it’s a mirror he didn’t ask for.

A woman sobs. A man mutters, “It’s doctored.” No one believes him.

Emerald steps forward, slowly. Her heels echo. She’s not shocked. She’s absorbing.

EMERALD
(to no one, to everyone) Truth doesn’t
need permission. It just needs timing.

She turns to Troy. Their eyes meet. He’s pale. She’s vivid.

EMERALD
(quietly) You didn’t leak it.
But you lit it.

Troy doesn’t answer. He doesn’t deny.

CUT TO:

INT. THE BLOWOUT SALON – SAME

ROMA VALERO watches the chaos unfold on her phone. She sips espresso, unbothered. Her lipstick is perfect. Her nails tap the screen.

ROMA
And just like that…
the wind changes.

She deletes a message thread. The sender: Anonymous. She doesn’t flinch.

NICK RANSOM enters, rain-damp and curious. He shakes off his coat. She doesn’t look up.

NICK
You watching the funeral?

ROMA
I’m watching the aftermath.
The funeral was just foreplay.

NICK
(grinning) You always talk
like you’re narrating a noir.

ROMA
(finally looking at him) And you always
listen like you’re hoping for a kiss.

NICK
Should I be?

ROMA
(smirking)  Ask me again when
the island’s done bleeding.

She slides her phone across the counter. The video plays again. She watches Nick watch it.

ROMA
(softly) You know what
I love about chaos?

NICK
What?

ROMA
It’s honest. It doesn’t
pretend to be polite.

CUT TO:

EXT. WINDSWEPT ESTATE – MOMENTS LATER

CELESTE corners EMERALD beneath a weeping willow. The wind picks up. Leaves scatter like secrets.

CELESTE
You always knew how to make an entrance.
But do you know how to make an exit?

EMERALD
(smiling) I don’t exit, darling.
I transcend. You should try it.
Your bitterness is starting to wrinkle.

CELESTE
(stepping closer) You think this
scandal makes you untouchable?

EMERALD
(stepping closer still) I think it
makes me inevitable.

CELESTE
Nigel’s ruined.

EMERALD
Nigel’s revealed.
There’s a difference.

CELESTE
(voice cracking) You’re protecting him?

EMERALD
(softly) I’m protecting the truth.
It’s the only thing on this island that doesn’t rot.

They stand inches apart. The wind howls. Neither moves. Neither blinks.

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT II

ACT III – Fallout and Fractures

FADE IN:

INT. NIGEL ASHBY’S TOWNHOUSE – NIGHT

The room is dim, modern, and sterile—like Nigel’s life. Rain taps the windows. The air is thick with silence.

TROY WILDER stands in the doorway, soaked and furious. His coat drips onto the hardwood. Nigel doesn’t offer a towel.

TROY
You’re not even going to deny it?

NIGEL
(calm, too calm) Why would I?
It’s not a crime to kiss someone.
Not yet, anyway.

Troy steps forward. His jaw tightens. He gestures wildly, then stops himself.

TROY
It wasn’t just a kiss. It was a secret.
And now it’s a headline.

NIGEL
(quietly) You think I leaked it?

TROY
I think you’re the only one
who benefits from the chaos.

Nigel flinches—barely. He turns to the window, watching the storm.

NIGEL
You think I benefit from my father’s
funeral turning into a tabloid orgy?

TROY
I think you’ve always wanted to burn the house down.
You just didn’t want to light the match yourself.

Nigel turns. His eyes are glassy. His voice drops.

NIGEL
Careful, Troy. You’re starting to sound
like someone who thought this
meant more than it did.

Troy’s breath catches. He steps back. His hand curls into a fist, then releases.

TROY
And you’re starting to sound like your father.

That lands. Nigel’s face hardens. He walks to the door. Opens it.

NIGEL
Get out.

TROY
(already halfway there) Already gone.

He leaves. Nigel closes the door slowly. Then leans against it. He doesn’t cry. He doesn’t move.

CUT TO:

INT. ST. BARNABY’S HOSPITAL – RECORDS ROOM – SAME

NIA HART flips through a patient file. Her fingers pause. Her breath catches.

NIA
(to herself) No. No, no, no.

She scans the page again. Emergency contact: Ashby Foundation. Date of death: same day as Malcolm Ashby. Time of death: identical.

She closes the file. Her hands shake. She doesn’t tell Darius.

She walks to the window. The rain blurs the glass. She presses her forehead against it.

NIA
(softly) This island doesn’t
bury the dead. It archives them.

CUT TO:

INT. SHERIDAN HOUSE – MASTER BEDROOM – SAME

LEE SHERIDAN opens a drawer. Inside: an old photo.

NIGEL, GRAHAM, MALCOLM ASHBY—and a fourth man. His face is scratched out with something sharp. Not erased. Violently removed.

She flips the photo. A date: November 17, 1998. A note in Malcolm’s handwriting: “The one we buried.”

She stares at it like it’s a ghost. Because it is.

She sits on the edge of the bed. Her fingers tremble. She doesn’t cry. She calculates.

LEE
(to herself) If he’s back…
the island won’t survive it.

CUT TO:

INT. WINDSOR UNIVERSITY – MAURA’S LOCKER – SAME

MAURA BLAKE opens her locker. A flash drive sits on top of her books.

No note. No explanation. Just implication.

She plugs it into her laptop. The video plays. Nigel. Troy. The kiss.

MAURA
I didn’t leak this.
So who wants me to think I did?

She looks around. The hallway is empty. But someone has been here. And they want her scared.

She closes her locker slowly. Her hands linger on the metal. She exhales—shaky, uncertain.

CUT TO:

INT. THE RUSTY PELICAN – LATER THAT NIGHT

NICK RANSOM wipes down the bar. ROMA VALERO enters, umbrella dripping, eyes sharp.

NICK
You’re late.

ROMA
I’m Spanish. We arrive
when the story’s ready.

NICK
And what’s the story tonight?

ROMA
A boy kissed a boy and the island caught fire.
You’d think we were still in the 1800s.

NICK
You’re not surprised.

ROMA
Darling, I’m never surprised.
I’m just occasionally impressed.

She sits. He pours. She watches him. The tension is playful, but there’s something darker underneath.

ROMA
You ever wonder what it’s like to be
the match instead of the flame?

NICK
I’ve been both. But I burn slower than most.

ROMA
Good. I like my disasters
slow and cinematic.

They clink glasses. The storm rattles the windows. Outside, the wind howls. Inside, something begins to smolder.

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT III

ACT IV – Secrets and Storms

FADE IN:

INT. LANGFORD MEDIA HQ – EXECUTIVE OFFICE – NIGHT

The office is sleek, cold, curated for intimidation. GRAHAM SHERIDAN stands behind his desk, arms folded like a verdict. The storm outside rattles the windows.

TROY WILDER enters, soaked from the rain, but dry in his defiance. He doesn’t remove his coat. He’s not staying.

GRAHAM
You work for me. You sleep with him.
You think that’s sustainable?

TROY
(calmly) I think truth is sustainable.
You should try it sometime.

GRAHAM
(stepping forward) Truth is a luxury.
And you’re not rich enough to afford it.

TROY
(smirking) Neither are you.
But you’ve always been good at renting it.

Graham circles the desk. His watch glints. His voice lowers.

GRAHAM
You think you’re clever.
You think you’re dangerous.

TROY
I think I’m tired of pretending not to be.

GRAHAM
You’re a journalist. You’re supposed
to observe, not participate.

TROY
(stepping closer) Then stop giving
me things worth writing about.

They lock eyes. The air tightens. Graham’s fingers twitch. Troy’s jaw clenches. Neither blinks.

CUT TO:

INT. SHERIDAN HOUSE – MASTER BEDROOM – LATER

LEE SHERIDAN opens the drawer again. The photo is still there.

NIGEL, GRAHAM, MALCOLM—and the fourth man. His face scratched out. Not erased. Violently removed.

She flips it. The date: November 17, 1998. The note: “The one we buried.”

She stares. Her fingers tremble. She doesn’t cry. She calculates.

LEE
(to herself) If he’s back… the island will
tear itself apart. And we’ll help it.

She places the photo in a silk envelope. Seals it. Writes a name: Celeste Langford.

CUT TO:

INT. THE BLOWOUT SALON – BACK ROOM – NIGHT

ROMA VALERO closes her compact. Her lipstick is war paint. She adjusts her blouse—strategic cleavage, curated chaos.

CELESTE LANGFORD enters, unannounced, uninvited, unafraid. Her heels click like punctuation.

CELESTE
You want Emerald gone?

ROMA
I want her ruined.

CELESTE
Then let’s talk.

ROMA
(smirking) You’re late.
I already started.

CELESTE
You leaked the video?

ROMA
I curated the chaos.
Leaking is so… amateur.

CELESTE
You think you’re clever.

ROMA
I think I’m necessary. And I think
you’re finally ready to admit it.

CELESTE
She’ll fight back.

ROMA
Good. I like my enemies loud.
It makes their silence later more satisfying.

CELESTE
What do you want?

ROMA
A seat at the table.
And a knife under it.

They lock eyes. The wind howls outside. Inside, something colder begins to stir.

CUT TO:

INT. THE RUSTY PELICAN – LATER THAT NIGHT

NICK RANSOM wipes down the bar. ROMA enters again, umbrella dripping, eyes sharper than before.

NICK
Twice in one night. Either
I’m lucky or you’re plotting.

ROMA
Can’t it be both?

NICK
Depends on whether I survive it.

ROMA
You will. I like my men breathing.
At least until they disappoint me.

NICK
And what happens then?

ROMA
I let them drown. But I always send flowers.

NICK
You’re terrifying.

ROMA
I’m honest. It’s not my fault
people confuse the two.

She sits. He pours. She watches him. The tension is playful, but there’s something darker underneath.

NICK
You want something.

ROMA
I want everything. But tonight?
Just a drink. And maybe a name.

NICK Whose?

ROMA
The one who gave Maura that flash drive.

NICK
You think I know?

ROMA
I think you know everyone. And
I think you talk when you’re kissed.

She leans in. He doesn’t move. The storm rattles the windows. The wind is listening.

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT IV

ACT V – Cliffhanger

FADE IN:

EXT. WINDSOR ISLAND – NIGHT

The storm hits like a reckoning. Trees bend. Windows rattle. The sea claws at the cliffs.

A transformer explodes in the distance. The lights across the island flicker—then die.

Darkness swallows Windsor Island.

CUT TO:

INT. WINDSWEPT ESTATE – BIRDIE’S PARLOR – SAME

Candlelight flickers. Shadows stretch like accusations.

BIRDIE LANGFORD sits alone, untouched scotch in hand. Her veil is gone. Her face is bare. And tired.

She stares at a portrait of Malcolm—young, smiling, curated. She doesn’t smile back.

A knock at the door.

She rises. Opens it.

No one.

She looks down.

A letter. Cream envelope. No return address. Her name in handwriting she hasn’t seen in years.

She opens it. Reads.

Her face drains of color.

BIRDIE
(whispers) He’s not dead.

She doesn’t scream. She doesn’t move. She just stares into the dark.

The letter slips from her fingers. Lands beside the scotch. The candle flickers. Then steadies.

CUT TO:

INT. DRIFTWOOD INN – ROOM 6 – SAME

A man stands at the window, watching the storm. We don’t see his face.

On the table: A gold coin. A torn photograph. A passport.

Name: Malcolm Vale.

He lights a cigarette. Inhales. Exhales.

MALCOLM (O.S.)
Let’s see who remembers how to lie.

He turns. His silhouette is unmistakable. The storm doesn’t touch him.

CUT TO:

INT. ST. BARNABY’S HOSPITAL – NIA’S OFFICE – SAME

NIA HART stares at the file again. She picks up her phone. Dials.

NIA
It’s me. We have a problem.
And it’s wearing Malcolm Ashby’s face.

She hangs up. Locks the file in a drawer. Then unlocks it again. She’s not ready to forget.

CUT TO:

INT. THE RUSTY PELICAN – SAME

ROMA VALERO and NICK RANSOM sit at the bar, the only light coming from a single candle.

ROMA
You feel that?

NICK
The storm?

ROMA
No. The shift.

NICK
What shift?

ROMA
(smiling) The moment before the truth
walks in wearing someone else’s shoes.

She sips her drink. The candle flickers. Then dies.

Nick doesn’t move. He watches her. She watches the door.

CUT TO:

EXT. WINDSOR ISLAND – WIDE SHOT

The island is dark. The wind howls. The sea roars.

And somewhere, someone is coming home.

FADE TO BLACK.
