Tensions run high at Comic-Con. The crowds! The press! The busy schedule, open bars, and limited food! Even for normies, it can be a lot to handle. But according to Sophie Turner, a 2014 San Diego Comic-Con after-party was one celebrity couple’s breaking point. On Late Night With Seth Meyers, Turner told the story of the time she maybe ended a celeb engagement with a wave.
“I really can’t name names, or I’ll get in a lot of trouble,” Turner said. Which, incidentally, is the best way to start any story. “I brought my best friend from my school days with me, and she saw this actor that she loved. And she obviously just goes to me, like, ‘Can you just say hi?’” Turner said she gave a little wave to the actor and moved on with her life. “And then later on, I see this girl looking at me, and she’s a famous actress,” Turner continued. “And I was like, ‘Oh, I have to go and tell her how much she means to me.’” So she dances over to this woman, about to do a whole heartfelt sesh, when the actress claps back: “She goes, ‘Can you stop f—ing flirting with my fiancé?’ And I was like, ‘Who’s your fiancé?’ She points at the guy that I’d waved at. And I have no idea who this man is.” Turner then said she’s pretty sure the couple ended their engagement that night, because of her wave. “I didn’t realize I held this power!” she remarked.
So now the question is this: Whomst got un-engaged thanks to a Sophie Turner wave? Reddit and other goss verticals suspect Evan Peters and Emma Roberts. Peters and Roberts were on-again, off-again from 2012 to 2019. And they did go to Comic-Con 2014 together. Getty Images sleuthing shows that Peters and Roberts were at the Twentieth Century Fox Television’s Comic-Con Stars & Producers Cocktail Party together on the night in question. But Peters seemed to skip Entertainment Weekly’s Annual Comic-Con Celebration (the party where Turner met Meyers), with Roberts appearing on the step-and-repeat with her American Horror Story co-star Sarah Paulson. Later that night, the paps caught Roberts being consoled by friends. About a wave? Impossible to say. Also at the EW party were Skylar Astin and Anna Camp, Mira Sorvino and Christopher Backus, and, of course, That ’70s Show star Kurtwood Smith and his wife Joan Pirkle. Our money is on Red.
